One of the coolest perks of having a listing outside my usual stomping grounds is the chance to dive headfirst into a new neighborhood and soak up its vibes like a local. Enter Culver West, a delightful slice of Culver City (or Del Rey, depending on who you ask, but I’m sticking with Culver West!). This charming area has been part of my life for ages, thanks to both my daughter and sons’ awesome friends who call it home. But now, with my daily visits, I’m getting to know it on a whole new level. Let’s dive into it!
First stop:
Hatchett Hall! Nestled at the end of Neosho on the north side of Washington, this place is a culinary wonderland. As a self-proclaimed Caesar Salad aficionado, I can vouch for their epic rendition—I think one of the best in all of Los Angeles! The menu is extensive, the atmosphere is buzzing, and they’ve got a bar whimsically named “The Old Man Bar.” Plus, their skinny Margarita is a must-try. I’m already planning my next visit!
And what’s a trip to Culver West without indulging in a sweet treat from
Ginger’s Divine Ice Cream? Located at the corner of Neosho and Washington, this spot is a paradise for ice cream lovers. My top pick? Brace yourself for the Billionaire Brownie: vanilla ice cream swirled with in-house-made brownies, salted pecans, and luscious ribbons of caramel and fudge. Just thinking about it makes me want to dash over for a scoop! And for the vegans in your life, they’ve got many incredible options. Today’s adventure also led me to
Tangaroa, where I discovered their fabulous fish grill. It’s a bit like Santa Monica Seafood but with the bonus of a cozy bar where you can enjoy lunch or dinner. I enjoyed their grilled fish tacos, which were both filling and delicious.
Next on my list is
Menotti’s Coffee, a spot I can’t believe I haven’t visited yet! Inspired by the hilarious show "Curb Your Enthusiasm" (a personal favorite), they’ve got a latte named in honor of Larry David—the Latte Larry. With vinyl records spinning in the background and quirky merch to boot, this place is calling my name. Tomorrow’s mission: accepted!
And to wrap up this whirlwind tour, let’s talk about
Kustaa. Just a couple of blocks away, this gem offers mouthwatering sandwiches, fresh salads, and a delightful outdoor patio. I’ve been a fan for years, thanks to a friend who hosts a real estate networking event here every couple of months. It’s a well-kept secret in this neck of the woods, but now you’re in on it too!
So there you have it, folks—my first blog post about Culver West. Stay tuned for more adventures and hidden treasures in this vibrant community of Los Angeles! Where to next?
